Celebrating National Hotel Employee Day and Labor Day: Honoring the Heart of Hospitality

National Hotel Employee Day

On September 1, we celebrate National Hotel Employee Day alongside Labor Day to recognize and honor the 2.1 million employees who make America’s hotel industry thrive. Established in 2022 by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and the National Day Calendar, National Hotel Employee Day shines a spotlight on the incredible people who are the backbone of our hotels and communities.

Hotel employees are the heart of the lodging industry. Every day, across towns and cities nationwide, they play a vital role in some of life’s most memorable moments, from wedding receptions to family reunions and vacations. Whether they are greeting guests at the front desk, parking cars as valets, keeping rooms spotless as housekeepers, or preparing meals in the kitchen, these employees ensure the hospitality and travel industry runs smoothly.

Building Careers and Advancing Talent in the Hotel Industry

The hotel industry also offers more than 200 career paths, providing significant opportunities for advancement. Many of today’s hotel managers began their journeys in frontline roles, moving up the ladder through dedication and hard work. The AHLA Foundation champions these career paths, offering workforce development programs and resources that help recruit, retain, and advance hotel professionals. To date, the Foundation has reinvested $44 million back into the industry, directly benefiting 45,000 individuals and supporting the people who make our hotels exceptional.
