Going Green with Hospitality Technology

Going green is pretty much always on trend and often top of mind for guests. A study conducted by the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration found that 83% of consumers say it’s important that companies have environmental programs. And of those consumers, 22% said they’d pay more for environmentally conscious products. So going green can not only be beneficial to your hotel’s bottom line, it can help draw in more guests.

There is no shortage of benefits to taking an eco-friendly approach to operations—it saves resources, the environment, and money. For example, 30 standard incandescent bulbs use  about 3,285 kWh per year, costing $328.50. However, the same number of LED lights only consumes about 329 kWh of energy per year, costing $32.90 a year, a tenth of what those incandescent bulbs would cost. Water-saving laundry systems can also provide significant savings by using up to 80% less water and 50% less energy.

Even beyond switching light bulbs and conserving water, your hotel can go green by implementing a hospitality technology solution at your property. It not only saves paper, but also allows you to keep accurate records on maintenance, cleanings and guestroom information. And on top of eliminating areas of material waste, you’ll save yourself and your team time, too.

Save Paper with Digital Work Orders, PMs and Inspections

Paper is a valuable resource for tracking and leaving a “paper trail” of information that can help you and your team stay on track. But it also has a huge environmental impact. The average American uses about seven trees worth of paper, wood and other products made from trees, which adds up to about two billion trees each year.  On top of that, in the U.S. alone, we throw away approximately one billion trees worth of paper on a yearly basis.

But solutions like Quore allow you to maintain a digital paper trail of all the tasks you need to track without contributing to paper waste. You’re able to complete work orders, preventative maintenance, inspections and more in the cloud-based system, so you’ll still have access to all the “paperwork” you need, whenever and wherever you need it.

Quore can save hotels approximately 7,447,248 pieces of paper a year for work orders, PMs and inspections alone! Over four years, that’s nearly 30 million pieces of paper your team could save by going digital.

Keep Track of Guests Opting to be Eco-Conscious

Whether you’ve stayed there or worked there—you’ve probably seen the little messages in hotel rooms encouraging guests to reuse towels and conserve toiletries. This isn’t just a money-saving tactic; it reduces water and waste and helps the environment! And by using a hospitality technology software, you can easily keep track of which guests have opted for these eco-conscious options.

With Quore, you can log guest preferences in the Rooms Book and the system will digitally notify your housekeeping team, too, so they know which guests want their towels replaced and which guests want to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Decrease Your Commuter Footprint

One of the biggest perks of using a digital hospitality tool like Quore is that you can view all of your property’s information at any time, from wherever you are. This comes with big environmental advantages as well when you consider how much travel time it could save your above property and management team.

Whether it saves you a couple of flights or a few roadtrips to a property, the ability to clearly see what’s happening at your hotel from afar allows you and your team to reduce your carbon footprint and save time.

Eliminate Energy and Water Waste Fast

With a system like Quore, you can track daily meter readings and compare reading entries to identify any unusual water or electrical spikes. Quore’s customers have identified water leaks and excessive electricity usage by using our Readings app. By taking meter readings everyday (or multiple times per day) users can identify excessive usage by comparing readings from entry to entry, saving water and electricity.

We Love Green (And not Just Because it’s Our Brand Colors)

Being conscious about our impact on the environment is something we should consider year round. We all share this earth together, and that’s something we can celebrate and take pride in! Whether your hotel makes a big change to go green or rolls out a few small eco initiatives here and there, every little bit counts towards helping pave the way for a greener future.
